How To Wash Towels And Ensure They Last Longer

How To Wash Towels

Your towels are way dirtier than you think! Since they’re damp and absorbent, towels trap plenty of bacteria and other germs. While most of these germs are harmless, sometimes, they could carry disease-causing bacteria like E-coli and salmonella. If you are concerned about towel hygiene, here are a few tips to help you:

 1. Do Not Leave Your Towel In The Bathroom:

Dark and damp environments offer the perfect condition for bacteria and other microorganisms to grow. Most people do not wash their hands thoroughly. As a result, our hands transfer microbes from whatever we touch to the towels. In fact, one study found that nearly 90% of bathroom towels carried E-coli. The chances of getting sick from infected towels are significantly higher if you have cuts, abrasions, or dry skin.

The best way to protect yourself is to dry your towels outside the bathroom in a well-ventilated area and wash them at least once in 2 days. And don’t forget to wash your hands thoroughly.

 2. Pick The Right Towel:

Maintaining proper towel hygiene begins with buying good-quality towels. Cotton is naturally absorbent and hence the best choice of material. At Loopys, we use premium Turkish cotton that’s all-natural and 100% organic. We do not use synthetic colours when dyeing our Turkish towels.

Turkish cotton has one of the longest and finest fibres in the world. Towels made using this cotton are smoother and more absorbent than regular cotton towels. They also tend to become softer and comfortable over time.

3. Do Not Add Fabric Softeners:

Fabric softeners and dryer sheets are harmful to your clothes and the environment. They contain toxic ingredients like ammonium compounds, ethanol, and benzyl acetate. Since fabric softeners are designed to stay in your clothes for longer, these chemicals tend to be absorbed through the skin or inhaled, causing a range of issues, including skin allergies, asthma, and even cancer.

The chemicals in these softeners coat the fibres with a waxy residue that prevents water absorption, making the towels rough over time. Instead, use a solution of vinegar and water to remove excess detergent residue and keep your towels smelling fresh.

For Turkish towels, you don’t have to add vinegar, thanks to the quality of the cotton and the weaving techniques we use.
